Whether this is a process you’ve dreamed about since you were a child or something you’re just now thinking about now that <\/span>you’re engaged<\/span><\/a>, there are a few things you can do to set yourself up for success. <\/span><\/p>\n

Ensuring that you have everything you need to make the most out of the experience is key to making sure that it’s enjoyable. When wedding planning, you likely spend a lot of time scrolling through <\/span>Pinterest<\/span><\/a>–creating a board for your ideal wedding day. And we’re going to guess that you’ve probably saved quite a few dresses in the midst of all that <\/span>inspiration<\/span><\/a>. Bringing these photos to your bridal appointment can help your bridal consultant narrow down what you’re looking for and give them a better understanding of what it is you want to try on. The boutique may even carry your specific dream dress.<\/span><\/p>\n

Loved Ones<\/span><\/h3>\n
We understand that you want to bring everyone who matters most to you. However, it’s important to remember that the more people you bring, the more opinions you’re going to have. Your entourage should consist of the people you trust most who will lift you up and make you feel good. If it gets to be too much, don’t be afraid to end the day early and visit another time without the crowd. And always remember that it’s your dress, so as long as it makes you feel confident, that’s all that matters. <\/span><\/p>\n
Snacks & Water<\/span><\/h3>\n
If you’ve got a lot of appointments scheduled back to back (which we don’t recommend), you need fuel to keep your energy levels up. Being hangry makes shopping difficult and can even skew how you view the dresses you try on. Carve out time for a lunch break if you are doing a full day of shopping. But it’s also wise to pack healthy snacks (such as fruits, veggies, or nuts) and a couple of water bottles to stay hydrated and satiated throughout the day.<\/span><\/p>\n

Heels<\/span><\/h3>\n
Since wedding dress shopping should be one of the earliest tasks you do during the wedding planning process, there’s a good chance you don’t have your wedding shoes picked out. That’s totally okay. If you have an idea of what you want to wear (i.e., heels, wedges, or flats), bring a pair of shoes that are similar in height and style. Even though you’ve likely not gone through your hair and <\/span>makeup<\/span><\/a> trial yet, you may have an idea of what you want to do with your hair for your wedding. For some, this may include a veil or <\/span>hair clip<\/span><\/a> that was passed down to them by their family or friends (which happens to make for a great “something old” or “something borrowed”). For others, this may be a slicked-back, elegant ponytail. Whatever it may be, bringing hair clips or ties can help you picture what everything will look like when put together on the day of. <\/span><\/p>\n
If you’re unsure of what you’re doing yet, at least bring a ponytail in case you need to throw your hair up. Many boutiques sell veils or hair clips, so if you’re unsure, don’t be afraid to ask to try some on while you try on dresses. <\/span><\/p>\n
Nude Undergarments<\/span><\/h3>\n
The last thing you want to see while trying on dresses is a hot pink underwear line under the dress. Because dark or bright colors show through many fabrics, it’s wise to wear nude undergarments to avoid harsh lines.<\/span><\/p>\n
There’s also a common misconception that a strapless bra is needed when trying on gowns. Because most wedding dresses have cups built in, you likely won’t be wearing a bra on your wedding day. Therefore wearing one when trying dresses on isn’t necessary. <\/span><\/p>\n

Pasties <\/span><\/h3>\n
Speaking of going braless, if you’re uncomfortable with being nude in front of a bridal consultant, you may want to consider pasties or nipple covers. Although you can have a family member or friend help you into dresses, having a consultant there with you is extremely helpful because they know exactly how to clip dresses and fit the sample sizes to your body. Shapewear<\/span><\/h3>\n
We want you to feel your best when trying on wedding dresses, and if shapewear is going to make you more comfortable, then bring it with you to your appointments. And, of course, as we mentioned earlier, make sure it’s nude-colored, so it doesn’t show through the gowns.<\/span><\/p>\n
