Kathleen and Korey’s Marigny Opera House<\/a> wedding was the epitome of New Orleans style and non-traditional grandeur. Rather than a traditional ceremony setup, the couple worked with their planner, Elyse Jennings<\/a>, to design a lounge feel with comfy seating areas and high cocktail tables to enjoy pre-ceremony drinks. With the help of Antigua Floral + Styling<\/a>, they created a whimsical feel inside the opera house in neutral shades and earthy textures that highlighted the historic architecture. For their reception, they went full NOLA glam at the Civic Theatre<\/a> with red velvet, gold sequin tablecloths, and disco balls. Kathleen killed the style game with not one but two outfit changes that included an ethereal blush Demartini the Label<\/a> gown, a chic red silk dress and gold crown, and a sequin jumpsuit from Alice and Olivia<\/a> that was made for dancing! It’s not easy to pull off two completely different styles in one day, but this creative couple and their talented team nailed it, and photographer Carina Skrobecki<\/a> could not have captured it all more perfectly!<\/p>\n

We wanted the wedding to feel like us (considered and well-designed) but laid back like the Big Easy — cocktails when you arrive, a second line to the reception, and a few outfit changes in-between because, why not?<\/em><\/p>\n

The Marigny Opera House<\/a> is raw and romantic, with beautiful soft light and lots of character. We picked neutral tones and accents of greenery to highlight the building’s high ceilings and mosaic floors, saving the arches as the backdrop for the ceremony.<\/em><\/p>\n

We decided to change the ceremony layout to include lounges and highboy tables instead of the traditional setup — it helped make the venue feel very intimate and close. Because of that, the guests became part of the ceremony, cheering while I walked down the aisle and laughing (or tearing up) as my sister-in-law officiated the wedding.<\/em><\/p>\n

For people who haven’t been to New Orleans the Second Line parade is a really special part of the celebration. The Kinfolk Brass band led us through the streets of the Bywater neighborhood as we sang and danced our way to the reception. Traditionally the bride and groom carry umbrellas which we handmade with white ostrich feathers for the bride and black for the groom.<\/em><\/p>\n

I wore 3 different looks all chosen specifically to complement the mood of each venue. I started in a blush custom-made gown I designed with a friend that had ostrich feathers, pearls, and a double veil. I changed into a red silk, long sleeve dress and star crown for the reception, and ended the night dancing in an Alice and Olivia<\/a> sequin suit underneath the disco ball centerpiece.<\/em><\/p>\n
