Ashley and Paul’s Scottish-American wedding at Jackson Avenue Terminal<\/a>, a historic restored freight train station in downtown Knoxville, featured plenty of understated cultural details, without going full tartan and kilt. The unique, urban venue of raw brick and exposed beams contrasted beautifully with the rosy, vintage color palette and fabulously elegant décor. An eclectic mix of turn-of-the-century industrial architecture, glamorous gold and silver candelabras, and reception tables heaped in dreamy florals. The bride’s vintage-inspired wedding day look featured an ultra glam long-sleeve Jenny Packham<\/a> wedding gown with a Claire Pettibone<\/a> cap veil for a timeless, classic feel. Samuel Franklin Florals<\/a> created the oversized sepia-toned floral décor featuring a few subtle nods to the groom’s heritage – subtle Scottish heather and statement-making purple thistles, an ancient emblem of the nation. Paul<\/span> is from Scotland and<\/span> Ashley<\/span> is from Tennessee so we tried to have small nods from each culture. Our dear friend is a calligrapher so she made a special hand drawn stamp of a magnolia flower with a piece of Scottish Heather. Our hors d’ouevres reflected southern culture, and<\/span> our music at the end of the night reflected Scottish and<\/span> Irish tradition. We didn’t want to go full on boots and<\/span> Tartan because that doesn’t reflect our true personalities but we certainly wanted pieces because we both have tremendous pride for where we are from.<\/em><\/p>\n

Ashley<\/span> loves the Biltmore estate in Asheville, North Carolina so her wedding and<\/span> style inspiration was Cornelia Vanderbilt. Jenny Packham’s Eden gown felt so glam and<\/span> eclectic and<\/span> the Claire Pettibone Juliet cap veil was that perfect old school touch. The groom wore a classic navy Ted Baker suit with Louis Vuitton shoes. He picked out the floral ties and<\/span>pockets squares from ASOS.<\/em><\/p>\n

We wanted our wedding to feel comfortable so we, and<\/span> our guests, could feel like we could have a good time. We wanted to enjoy our families, friends, and <\/span>eachother.<\/em><\/p>\n

Don’t be afraid to do what feels like you, even if it feels a little risky. Also, enlist the help of people that truly see your vision. Everyone we worked with saw pieces even beyond what we could see and<\/span> it made our day totally incredible.<\/em><\/p>\n

Everything was such a blur but during dinner we were able to sit at the front of the room and<\/span> look around at everyone. This was probably the only time we would ever have so many of our dearest family and<\/span> friends in one room together and<\/span> we wanted to seal that in our hearts and<\/span> minds.<\/em><\/p>\n

We had a ton of guests flying in from all over the world and<\/span> we really wanted them to experience Knoxville’s downtown area. Ashley<\/span> actually lived next door to the reception venue and<\/span> across from the ceremony site when she lived downtown. <\/em><\/p>\n
