Sometimes, when you’re trying to add a personal touch to your wedding, you don’t need to look much further than your own backyard, which is exactly why Amy and Joel had their Muskoka wedding at their home in Ontario. For over a year, they poured their heart and soul into transforming their backyard forest into a dream venue. Lining every pathway surrounding their house with hundreds of candles and white twinkling lights, their hard work and attention to detail came together to form the intimate ceremony that they always hoped for.<\/p>\n

We decided to take the plunge into creating a venue out of our backyard forest. It was a lot of work, but totally worth it in the end!<\/em><\/p>\n

I really wanted to have blankets available to guests in the event that it got cold in the evening. We decided to take it a step further and did blanket favours. They were a huge hit!<\/em><\/p>\n

When you’re planning a wedding, don’t forget to spend time preparing for the marriage part – being engaged is such a special time, and when you’re stuck in the wedding planning chaos it’s important to still carve out time for your relationship and preparing yourselves for after the wedding too.<\/em><\/p>\n

One of the best moments of the day was after finishing sharing our vows that we had written together, we ended it by saying “for life” and at that moment our dog Nelson let out one loud bark and everyone started laughing.<\/em><\/p>\n

It was really important to us to create a day that was a true representation of us as a couple, and a wedding we could connect with. We also really wanted the reception to be a party that was a great experience for our guests. We wanted to jump right into the best parts of weddings, so we got married in the evening after dinner. <\/em><\/p>\n
