The Goals: <\/b>Summer in Chicago is beautiful, so we knew we wanted to have an outdoor ceremony in a scenic location. We choose a local forest preserve as our venue and it was so naturally beautiful that we were able to keep our ceremony decor simple and fresh. I wanted our wedding to be classic, elegant and beautiful. Because the ceremony was outside during June, I wanted a dress that wasn’t heavily beaded or ornate, but still made me feel like a bride, which is why I settled on a silk organza strapless A-line.<\/i><\/p>\n

The Style: <\/b>I have always loved the timeless styles of Grace Kelly, Audrey Hepburn, and Jackie O. While I didn’t want to feel like a “princess”, I definitely did want to feel like a bride. The dress I choose was not all what I originally had in mind, but it was so beautiful when I put it on that I didn’t want to take it off, and I loved the classic lines of it. I have never been a big jewelry person, and because the neckline was beaded, decided that a beautiful pair of earrings was all I really needed – along with a great pair of heels!<\/i><\/p>\n

The Dress: <\/b>My dress was designed by Oscar de la Renta<\/a>. It was so different from what I had pictured in my head, but as soon as I put it on, it was obvious that the craftsmanship and quality was far superior to anything else I had tried on. I loved how it made me feel and loved the thought of having a gown that I could pass on in my family for years to come.<\/i><\/p>\n

The Accessories: <\/b>I’ve never been one to wear a lot of accessories, so knew as soon as I found my dress that I just wanted a pair of beautiful earrings to go with it. I did follow the classic rules of “somethings”, but doubled up where I could – I had my grandfather’s pocket watch from when he was a train conductor sewn into my bouquet (my “something old” and “something borrowed”), my “something new” was the dress, and wore little blue undies as my “something blue”.<\/i><\/p>\n

The Advice: <\/b>My advice is to focus on creating a more polished version of yourself. I think sometimes brides can get so focused on looking “perfect” that they often end not looking like themselves. Go for a style that makes you feel confident and comfortable in, and really lets your happiness show through!
