This Shabby Chic Virginia Wedding at The Barn at Timber Creek Took Cues from the Italian Countryside

December 22, 2018 | juliette

With soft roses filling every corner and an airy color palette brightening up the rustic space, Hannah and CJ’s wedding at The Barn at Timber Creek was like a page out of an Italian fairytale. The couple wanted simplicity and elegance with a splash of fun, and that’s exactly what their planner and the floral designers at Urban Flora created! The ceremony was set beneath a canopy of tall trees and twinkle lights and the reception was set in the barn, complete with farmhouse tables, eucalyptus table runners, mason jars, and a dessert table made from wine barrels.  The bride channeled vintage Italian bridal style perfectly with a flowing gown from Ashley Grace Bridal, vintage crown, and long veil, and her girls looked gorgeous and goddess-like in neutral BHLDN dresses. From top to bottom, this shabby chic wedding was as effortless as it was elegant, and Alex Mari Photography captured the vibe beautifully!

The Couple:

Hannah and CJ

The Wedding:

The Barn at Timber Creek, Farmville, Virginia

The most important part of planning my wedding was pouring who CJ and I are into the details. From having our ceremony in the woods where our closest friends sang during our ceremony, to yummy donuts and coffee instead of cake, we were excited about it all! We wanted our personalities to show through. We also had a wedding weekend since we got married on a Sunday. Planning this took a lot of time, but we started early (we only had a 6-month engagement) and sought a lot of advice from others we admired.

I was inspired by old Italian brides. They had the most romantic weddings filled with candles and flowers. The arch of flowers and foliage was one of my favorite sights as I walked down the aisle. And long veils are so whimsical.

You do you! Around the time we first started planning, Starbucks had a slogan called, “Blonde Breaks Rules” (advertising their new blonde roast). While it may seem silly, that’s how I felt! I was overwhelmed at first with the task at hand, but as soon as CJ and I made a list of the most important things we wanted in our wedding, the rest melted away. So, I would recommend making that list and letting the little frustrations go. And when you feel overwhelmed and stressed, remember that gratitude turns everything into enough.

First Dance – “Best of Friends” by Pearl Bailey (from The Fox and the Hound)

There was a moment after the toasts and everyone was eating donuts and dancing that I remember thinking, “It doesn’t get better than this.” I was with the one whom my soul loves, and I was surrounded by the ones who had loved us so dearly. It was pure bliss!

  1. I adore both the rustic and vintage notes in this wedding, from the wooded setting to the barn reception. The bride’s messy updo with curly tendrils and a floral crown adds just the right touch to her simply elegant A-Line dress.

  2. I love the location of this wedding. Very beautiful.
