Paulo Coelho said that “the simple things are also the most extraordinary things,” and that was certainly the case at Marissa and Tim’s Phoenix wedding. The couple wanted their nuptials to be whimsical, wholesome, and fun for their family and friends. They tailored the ceremony and reception to include elements that they, both being writers, would enjoy. Tim’s college screenwriting professor officiated their sweet ceremony, including custom opening remarks and readings from Tim and Marissa’s favorite authors.

I liked that my dress was romantic, but also had a bit of an earthy vibe to it. The straps and tulle train are I think what sold me. Most of all, I loved how comfortable it was and how the dress simply felt like me. I kept my accessories pretty minimal – just a headpiece that I fell in love with and two pieces of jewelry that have a lot of meaning to me.

Our photographer, Monica, was amazing to work with. She made everything so easy! She gave some direction, but mostly just let the day unfurl and beautifully captured the moments and emotion that naturally occurred. We really could not have asked for a better photographer.

We let our entire wedding party choose their own dresses, suits, etc – we just gave them a length and color. I always liked the idea of letting the bridal party express themselves through their outfits and find something they feel great and can be comfortable in. I think it makes everything more interesting.

Reciting our vows was literally the best moment of my life. We left our hearts on those pages we recited to one another. Seeing my groom tear up during the vows was a moment I will always remember. There was just so much emotion, and it made it even more special that our closest friends and family members were there to share the experience with us.

When planning the wedding, try to focus on one thing at a time and know that more choices does not always make choosing any easier – your wedding will turn out beautiful no matter what you ultimately choose! DIY what you can, but also recognize the benefit of paying a little more and not having to worry. It’s a balance!

We wanted our wedding to be a reflection of us, and we wanted to create an atmosphere that would be memorable for our guests – we put a lot of thought into the location, food, and music for that reason. Above all, we wanted to have fun!
