Joy and Michael’s wedding at The Houstonian was elegant, romantic and timeless, but that didn’t mean that the evening was predictable – be sure to read about Joy’s telling of her dad’s heartwarming toast! Adam Nyholt’s skilled photographic style, a wonderful combination of classic portraiture and candid photojournalism, beautifully captured the atmosphere of the day.
Junebug: What three adjectives best describe your wedding?
Joy and Michael: Elegant, beautiful, and incredibly momentous
Junebug: What inspired your personal wedding style, and how did you incorporate your style and personalities into your big day?
Joy: I aimed for a classic wedding gown suggestive of my style and personality – feminine, lightweight, timeless, and elegant. My favorite aspects of the dress are the beautiful heaps of fabric throughout the skirt and the long, flowing train!
Junebug: Looking back, what are the moments, decisions or memories that you love the most about your wedding?
Joy: It’s hard to settle on just one memory! I loved the excitement walking into the ceremony and meeting eyes with Michael for the very first time… in my dress, as a bride, with 300 guests there to celebrate with us.
One of my favorite details of the wedding was the white/ivory/light pink theme of the night. It felt so romantic and elegant and perfectly accented everything from the floral to the room lighting to the bridesmaid dresses. And, my dress! I chose a gown made by Rivini, and I felt it was the true image of femininity and glamour. The beautiful heaps of fabric, the detail of the flowers throughout the skirt of the dress, the sweetheart design with sheer overlay, and the incredible train gave my dress the ultimate princess feel.
An especially surprising and unique touch to our wedding was that halfway into my dad’s speech, he broke into song! He quickly transformed into a modern day Sinatra and sang the timeless “The way you look tonight.” There were 300 people in the room, cheering and applauding my dad’s talent, yet for those minutes, I could feel him singing personally to me, as if I were the only one there.
Junebug: What specifically drew you to Adam Nyholt and his imagery?
Joy and Michael: Hes incredibly artistic and has a great eye for unique and interesting shots.
