Villa Antonia Gave This Elegant Texas Wedding California Winery Vibes

October 2, 2017 | colleen

There is a lot to be excited about over this Villa Antonia wedding – vineyard vibes, desert details, and one our very own from the Junebug team is the bride! Although Jessica and Dillan’s wedding was in Austin, it has us dreaming of vineyards along the countryside of France from the romantic architecture and lush greenery around the venue. Truly making their wedding their own, they stayed true to their Texas roots with a desert twist in their decor from the help of Transplants Floral and a BBQ dinner by Catering by Mopsie. All of this and more was photographed by the talented Lauren Apel.

The Couple:

Jessica and Dillan

The Wedding:

Villa Antonia, Austin, Texas

I actually wasn’t really sure what I wanted and went to try on dresses with an open mind. Though it wasn’t one I originally had my eye on, my mom saw my BHLDN dress and asked me to try it on. Reluctantly, I tried it on during the last few minutes of my appointment and I immediately fell in love. The fact that my mom chose it made it even more special!

The most important part of planning our wedding was making it as relaxed and stress-free as possible. Dillan and I decided that we wanted to choose a few things that were really important to us (photographer, venue, day-of coordinator) and invest the most time and money into those, skipping other small details such as menus and programs. We also wanted the entire day to be really personal and focus on our faith, so we chose to have Dillan‘s grandfather officiate the ceremony and had our families give heartfelt toasts and prayers during the reception.

The most memorable part of the day was reading our hand-written vows to each other. Though I originally wanted to do this in private, Dillan insisted that we read them in front of our families and close friends and I’m so glad we did. We could hear sniffling from everyone in the room! It was the most emotional and vulnerable I’ve ever been in front of that many people, but it made it so much more meaningful.

The best advice I could give about wedding planning is to focus on what matters most to you! Don’t let your vision get lost in the midst of all the suggestions and opinions of friends and family. Also, take time to step back from wedding planning for a few days during your engagement. Go on a date without discussing scheduling, finances, and emails for a night, and just focus on the reasons you want to marry each other!

Our venue overlooked the rolling hill country, which reminded us of the California winery where we got engaged. We also wanted a venue that included indoor ceremony space to escape the Texas summer heat, as well as a reception space on the same property.

Since our venue had so much character on its own, we chose mostly minimal, neutral decor and incorporated unique floral arrangements throughout. Our florist, Antonio, is so incredibly creative and talented, so we pretty much told him he could do whatever he wanted and we were so impressed with how his work turned out.

Though we had a pretty formal wedding, we wanted to create a relaxed atmosphere by serving a barbecue buffet for dinner, also reflecting our laid-back personalities and Texas roots.
