What three adjectives best describe your wedding? Fun, romantic, and relaxed

What was your wedding color palette? Corals, oranges, peaches, and white with touches of seafoam and gold

What inspired your personal wedding style, and how did you incorporate your style and personalities into your big day? We wanted our wedding to be very personal – from the crazy cake with the hiking couple on the top of it (we love to spend time outdoors together and David has hiked the Appalachian Trail), to the Persian cookies on our dessert table (a nod to Davids family), to the kiddush cups that we used in our ceremony (from our bar/bat mitzvahs) and David’s ring (a family heirloom that was a gift from my stepfather). Everything had some special meaning for us. We wanted the wedding to feel personal for our guests as well, so we asked everyone to give us copies of their own wedding photos, even if they could not make it to the wedding. We put these in gold frames and used them scattered around the reception.

It was also really important to us that our wedding be fun and entertaining for us and our guests. We wanted to have an amazing band and lots of ways for guests to amuse themselves like the make-your-own mojito bar, lighting chanukah candles with the kids (our wedding was on the last night of chanukah) and the fireworks at the end of the night. We did not want there to be any time when people were standing around with nothing to do!

Visually, we always had the venue in the back of our minds, and we chose the colors and the gold and lace accents with the tropical views and old world feel of the architecture in mind. It was a colorful and ornate setting so we used that as our guide for the look and feel of the wedding – an all-white wedding would not have worked there!

Looking back, what are the moments, decisions or memories that you love the most about your wedding?
Emma: David secretly learned to play the ukulele in the weeks leading up to our wedding and surprised me with a serenade of one of our favorite songs at the reception. He gave the music to the band in advance and all of our guests sang along with him on the chorus. It was such an amazing memory and probably the most romantic thing anyone has ever done for me. It will be hard for him to top!

David: At the end of the night, we called everyone out on the patio for a final treat and then surprised them with a fireworks display that was the equivalent of what a small town in the US would put on for the 4th of July. It was one of the highlights of the evening for everyone!

What piece of advice would you give to a bride planning her wedding today? It will all go by very quickly, so just try to stay present in every moment. We took a few minutes by ourselves after the ceremony to soak it all in, connect with each other, and get ready for the party, which we both really appreciated. Also, everyone will look to the bride and groom to set the tone for the party, so relax, get out on the dance floor and have fun and everyone else will follow!
