This Costa Rica Beach Wedding Embodies Relaxed Luxury

Shannon and Patrick’s Costa Rica beach wedding at Casa Capitan was a beautiful mix of bohemian elegance and relaxed luxury. The beachfront ceremony had a natural and organic feel, which they achieved by using white, ivory, and green decor and asking all of their guests to dress in neutral tones. For the reception, the couple kept with the natural feel but also added pops of color in the tablescapes to create a festive energy. We love both of the bride’s looks throughout the day, which included a timeless yet sexy open-back ceremony dress from Sarah Seven and a short, sparkly reception dress by Rime Arodaky that was definitely made for dancing! Megan McCullor Photography captured every detail and moment of this beach wedding beautifully!

The Couple:

Shannon and Patrick

The Wedding:

Casa Capitan, Santa Teresa, Costa Rica

I first went on a yoga and surf retreat to Costa Rica with my mom and fell in love with the place. Then I went back with Patrick, and this is actually where he proposed to me in May, Memorial Day Weekend of 2016. I always knew we would do a destination wedding because we love to travel. We have also been dating since high school and Patrick‘s family is huge! He is 1 of 7 and his parents have even larger families, so we wanted to make sure all the siblings could make it. Santa Teresa was easy enough to get to and yet so remote and beautiful.

On the beach, we had greens, ivory, white, and light brown/bamboo accents. We asked everyone to dress in that color scheme, as well, which made it look even that much more beautiful and natural.

We both wrote our own vows and did not rehearse them in front of anyone in advance. Standing up there, looking at each other in the eyes, and reading them out loud was so powerful. Our friend James, who we’ve known since elementary school, married us. Having him up there with us as we read our vows to each other was so incredible!

For the reception, I wanted our tables to pop from the setting. We used pops of bright pink and orange amongst burlap runner and wooden tables, white and burlap napkins draping from the table, and flowers and greenery running the length of the tables.
