Olowalu House Beach Wedding, Captured by Anna Kim Photography – Jennifer and Michael

January 15, 2013 | editorial team

Jennifer and Michael’s Maui wedding day was all about celebrating in personal style, while enjoying a stunningly beautiful location! I loved the thoughtful Hawaiian traditions they included – leis for the groom and groomsmen, and shave ice for their lucky guests – which were the perfect complement to picturesque Olowalu House. Junebug member and Maui wedding photographer Anna Kim captured the lighthearted, celebratory feel in her beautiful images.

What were the top three priorities for you in planning your wedding? A beautiful venue, great food, and making sure it was unique and fun!

Were there any places where you broke the rules in your wedding planning? Why and how did you do that? My husband and I wanted to make our ceremony unique and personal. We asked my older brother Anselm to officiate our wedding so that our ceremony could be more special. We also decided to write our own vows so that our guests can really see how much we love each other. To top things off, we flew our dog over to Hawaii and he was the best man!

What was your biggest wedding planning success? Everyone had such a great time! Our wedding was so fun!

What was the most important thing that you learned through the wedding planning process and what would you tell other brides-to-be? Always remember that you are a team! It’s going to be a crazy stressful planning process so don’t lose focus of your love!
