Japanese Garden Wedding at The Luigans Spa & Resort

Michiko and Daniel’s garden wedding at Luigans Spa & Resort was the picture of classy elegance that flawlessly combined Western and Eastern wedding traditions. The couple started the day with a Western ceremony overlooking the water, which was then followed by their first reception that featured a traditional meal, cake cutting, and bouquet toss. Then, as a nod to the bride’s Japanese heritage, the couple changed into traditional Japanese attire for a second reception that included both a Japanese meal and a sake-sharing ceremony. We absolutely love when couples blend elements of each other’s cultures into their weddings days! Anni Graham Photography did a beautiful job capturing all of the heartfelt, sentimental, and sweet moments of this multicultural wedding!

The Couple:

Michiko and Daniel

The Wedding:

Luigans Spa & Resort, Fukuoka, Japan

I used to work as a server for wedding parties in Los Angels when I was a student. One of my favorite venues at the time was in Palos Verdes where the venue was set on a hill overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Because of that venue, I had always wanted an outdoor garden wedding where we were surrounded with greenery and had a view of the ocean. The venue we chose in Japan was a resort hotel that was built on an island inside a national park. Seeing the venue for the first time brought back so many memories!

We involved a lot of our friends and family throughout our wedding day. My hair and make up was done by one of my close friends who owns her own salon. Our master of ceremony was someone I grew up with. He was the first person who actually encouraged and supported me when I moved away from Japan. We tried to include almost all of our friends’ children in the wedding precession before I walked down the aisle. Involving all of our loved ones is what really created such a special atmosphere.

We had guests from Japan, Korea, Spain, Mexico, America, the UK, and France (just to name a few). My Dad commented how it was truly a global event!

Because we had a Japanese wedding, my husband suggested we make origami cranes instead of purchasing name cards. It was a great and a novel idea that our guests loved!

  1. Awesome Pictures. Love the moments.

  2. Beautiful resort with great amenities. We stayed in an oceanfront king room that overlooked the pool and ocean. The room was very clean and spacious. This was an anniversary trip for me and my husband. Upon arrival, we found a chilled bottle of champagne and a lovely note wishing us a happy anniversary. Every single member of the staff from check-in to check-out was great! I honestly don’t have one single complaint about this place. It is super super super and I can’t wait to return!!!
