“Marshall was about to take off on a five-week trip, and he couldn’t bear to say goodbye to Emily without assuring her of his return. So he suggested a Ferris Bueller’s Day Off scenario for the Friday before his departure.

The adventure began with a picturesque hike, a scrumptious lunch, and a relaxing walk along the pier. The next stop: the Seattle Art Museum. And that day, there was a special exhibit. After they had wandered around for a while, Marshall directed Emily’s attention to a display in the main exhibit room. Behind the glass perched on a beautifully carved Asian wood stand, sat a bell shaped silver jewelry box, in which nested an exquisite solitaire diamond ring. “How beautiful,” she exclaimed, and she began to read the plaque…

"Unfortunately for all museum-goers, today will be the one and only day for this exhibit to be on display at the Seattle Art Museum. This piece is on loan from a not-so-wealthy, soon-to-be-unemployed businessman from Bellevue. It has been specifically designed for the most beautiful, God-fearing, loving, witty, selfless and gifted woman he has ever met. This ring has been handcrafted in order to make it official, on the 17th day of June in the year 2005, that Emily (if she says yes) will never leave the side of Marshall. Proverbs 31: 29/30"

Emily's jaw dropped as she whispered to Marshall, "Are you kidding me"? He wasn't kidding, and he lifted the glass case off the display and knelt before Emily with ring in hand."
