Wedding party fashion- dapper looks for your groomsmen, father, ring bearer and attendants

Suiting up the guys in your wedding party
will add much more than just major fashion
impact! The look of your Best Man,
groomsmen and ushers will help define the
style and formality of your wedding, the clothing
of the children involved will help determine if
they feel comfortable and confident enough to
participate, and the inclusion of your father and
father-in-law in your fashion choices will help
honor your bond with them on such an
important, emotional day.
Classic Style:
  • Classic suits and tuxedos exude romance and sophistication.
  • Come up with a game plan for coordinating your tux rentals with all of your guys. Work with a
national chain if they are traveling from across the country, or have them visit a professional
tailor in their area to have their measurements taken in advance.
  • Choose the same style suit or tuxedo for you as well as your groomsmen and ushers. Stick
with the same lapel shape, tie size, and choice of vest or cummerbund and differentiate
yourself, your groomsmens and your ushers with a small difference in the color or texture of
    your tie, vest or boutonniere.
  • If you want your wedding party to purchase a suit, give them fair warning so they have time to
save up funds, or consider helping them with the cost.
  • Consider having extra cuff links, studs, ties, pocket squares and dress socks on hand in case
    someone forgets theirs.
  • If you’re all renting or buying from the same place, invite your dad along to get him involved
and help him feel like one of the guys.
  • Many rental shops also carry children’s sizes. Choose a matching tux for the little boys in
    your entourage.

Casual Style:
  • Ask each groomsman to wear a black or dark grey suit, and then add color or interest with their
shirts, ties, pocket squares and boutonnieres.
  • Some tuxedo rental shops also rent suits which can be a good option if funds are tight.
  • If your guys are scattered across the country, find their shirts and ties at an Internet shop, then
send them the link so they can purchase on-line.
  • Be sure to tell them if they will need shirts with French cuffs for cuff links.
  • Is there something special your dad wore to his own wedding that would still look great today?
A handkerchief, a pocket watch, or a pair of cufflinks? Borrow them for your big day and start a
    family tradition of your own.
  • Give young members of your wedding party a boutonniere, or other accessory that’s just like the
    big boys.
  • At a casual wedding, dads and kids don’t need to perfectly coordinate with you and your
groomsmen, but they should wear something special that makes them stand out VIPs.

Alternative Style:
  • Be really clear about what you want the men in your wedding party to wear, so they don’t get
the wrong thing or run into confusion at the last minute.
  • If you want your guys to wear something unusual or one of a kind, consider purchasing it
yourself and making it your thank you gift to them.
  • For a creative mix and match look, have each groomsman choose a shirt and tie in your
wedding color palette. Send them an image or color swatch so they know exactly what colors
are cool, and bring along some extras in case one item doesn’t quite work.
  • If you’re wearing your military uniform, your guys will look great in coordinating tuxedos or dark
    suits.

Your whole wedding party doesn’t need to be Scottish to wear kilts with their formal wear, or Hawaiian
to wear traditional Kukui Nut Necklaces instead of boutonnieres. If it’s a look you love, go for it and get
one for each of your guys.

  • Take advantage of the fun you’re having with your fashion and be sure it’s all captured on film
    by your photographer!
