Daniel's Broiler
Christy WeberSeattle sparkles in the summertime and makes us forget about all that rain. Hooray! And what’s better during these warm summer days than a fantastic view of the water? Steaks, seafood, happy hour, and a fantastic view of the water! Head over to the Leschi Marina or South Lake Union Daniel’s Broiler for an old-school Seattle night on the town. Daniel’s is a classic steak house that boasts spectacular water views, superb customer service and an unbelievable menu of dishes like USDA prime Porterhouse steak topped with Dungeness crab and Béarnaise sauce, jumbo coldwater rock lobster tails, oysters on the half shell, and berries filled with Grand Marnier and dipped in chocolate. Wow! Treat yourselves to steaks on the deck or have fun with happy hour in the lounge: seven days a week from 4:30 to 6:30 and from 9pm until close. (Try the bacon wrapped scallops and the crispy fried calamari!) Soak up that sun while you can.

Excerpt from Popping the Question, Seattle Style by: Emerson Robbins (available at any Barnes and Noble or Borders bookstore on the West Coast.)

Blake had the ring, he and Jenna had talked about marriage, and he even had her father’s permission. The only thing left to do was set a plan in motion – and keep it all a secret from Jenna. Walking through the student center at his college one day, he saw a display of portraits painted by some art students, several of which were quite good. So he got Jenna to have a photograph taken with him in the “perfect pose” – two profiles, foreheads touching and hands touching each other’s faces – that she had always wanted for engagement pictures. He told her that he didn’t have much money for Valentine’s Day and that he wanted to get it framed for her. What he’d actually done was hire one of the student artists to re-create that very picture, with the engagement ring painted on Jenna’s finger. (He was confident).

What should we expect from our parents in terms of financial support for our wedding? Red Fish Blue Fish Phototography
Traditionally the bride’s parents pay for the wedding and reception, and the groom’s parents pay for the rehearsal dinner and honeymoon, but in this day and age there are no hard and fast rules about the financial breakdown. Today many couples pay for the wedding themselves or they split the costs with both sets of parents. You and your fiancée are free to do whatever feels right to you. Create a budget, talk it over with each other and communicate your expectations to your families clearly so everyone is comfortable and confident with their responsibilities.

Positive Light PhotographyWe’re doing most of the wedding planning ourselves, but I still want to involve my parents and make them feel included in the process. How can I do that?
Think about your parent’s interests and talents and take advantage of what they love to do! If your Mom’s a great cook, consider inviting her to the cake or catering tastings to try some yummy food and give her expert opinion. If your Dad’s a good researcher, he might like to help you find the best resources for quality champagne, wedding favors or other supplies for the big day. Small gestures can go a long way in this situation, so whatever your parent’s strengths are, try to find a place for them to shine and be sure to let them know you appreciate their help!

Cannon Beach, Oregon, is one of life’s pleasant surprises. If you go expecting to find rugged ocean beaches, emerald green rain forests, and cozy cabins along the bluff, you won’t be disappointed. What will surprise you in this decidedly Cape Cod style resort town, are the gourmet restaurants, the ultra romantic hotels and inns, and the vibrant art and culinary scene that make Cannon Beach a Northwest treasure. This is the perfect place to spend your days hiking, biking, and surfing in the great outdoors, and your nights watching the sunset, dining on delicacies, and cuddling by the fire.

Here’s what to do when you’re in Cannon Beach...

Relax: Check in to one of Junebug’s favorite places.
The Stephanie Inn: Here’s where you’ll find deliciously comfortable beach front rooms overlooking Haystack Rock; complete with fireplaces, soaking tubs, and large LCD screen TV’s. Be sure to make reservations in the dining room for one of their incomparable four-course dinners. The first people we met during our visit here were a couple from England who asked us to take their photo. They were celebrating their 22nd wedding anniversary, and 22 consecutive years of staying at the Stephanie Inn.

Blair deLaubenfelsArch Cape House: This Northwest style castle has gorgeously appointed rooms; several with outstanding views of the ocean. We love the Tower Room, with its Louis XIV bed and breathtaking view from the deep soaking tub. Enjoy a three-course breakfast in the dining room for a perfect start to your day.

Surfsand Resort: The newly renovated Surfsand Resort will be finished in August of 2007. We can’t wait to stay at this new top-tier property that features luxurious oceanfront rooms and suites, cozy gas fireplaces and 2 person Jacuzzi tubs. The whole place looks and feels like a home away from home.

Play:
Rent a beach bike from Mike’s Bike Shop – these bikes designed for beach combing allow you to cover miles of shoreline, while getting a fantastic workout.

Get yourselves surfboards and wet suits from Cannon Beach Surf and head to Shorty’s Beach, at Oswald State Park. This is a fun place to brush up on, or show off your surfing skills.

Soak up the sun! Just settle down on the beach that’s nearest to your door, or grab a picnic lunch and head to Ecola State Park. This beautiful half moon beach boasts spectacular views of the Cannon beach area, plus tide pooling during minus tides.

Eat:
Have breakfast at The Pig and Pancake, featuring a crazy long list of yummy pancakes and breakfast combinations that are mm, mm good.

Grab lunch at Fultano’s Pizza. This might be the best pizza on the West Coast, we’re not kidding!

Savor dinner at Gower St. Bistro. This romantic European charcuterie features mouth watering crab cakes, melt in your mouth steaks, an array of seasonal salads, and desserts to die for.

Get your coffee at Sleepy Monk Coffee Roasters. These guys serve fair trade, organic coffee and delicious foamy espresso that’s smooth like buttah. Being Seattleites, we like to stop in here a couple of times a day.

Indulge:
Shop at one of the many welcoming art galleries and specialty boutiques in town. You’ll find handmade glassware, pottery, jewelry, and all kinds of must haves to take back home.
Blair deLaubenfelsLay back and enjoy a deep tissue massage, or luxurious facial at the Cannon Beach Spa.

Create your own delicacies at Evoo – Cannon Beach Cooking School. The fun loving professional staff and delicious recipes at Evoo make this a special date; plus you’re guaranteed to find some impressive dishes to make for your sweetie in the years to come.

Thinking about getting married in Cannon Beach?
Call Celebrations by the Sea to help with your wedding details and be sure to check out the Haystack Gardens and the Surfsand Ballroom, both are excellent reception site options.
