Wedding Dress Sample Sale Tips from Kirstie Kelly Couture

Mark your calendars LA brides! This weekend, November 28th and 29th, Kirstie Kelly Couture is having a sample sale from 10am to 6pm at their beautiful Brentwood salon (see the details at the bottom of this post).

Sample sales can be great opportunities to find your dream dress at a discounted price, but since they only last for a short time, you definitely want to be prepared going in. To help you make the most of any sample sale experience, no matter where it is, here are Kirstie Kelly's top tips on how to approach a sample sale and find the dress you've been looking for. Thanks Kirstie!

1. Go to the sample sale with an idea of what you are looking for. Ball gown or sheath? Strapless or v-neck? Romantic and lacy or sleek and modern? This will help you and the bridal dress consultant you’re working with stay focused and will make your search much easier.

2. Remember that you can always make changes to the wedding dress with alterations. You could add lace or beading, improve the fit, or incorporate fabulous accessories to make it the custom gown of your dreams.

3. Be ready to purchase. If you find your dress at a sample sale you must be able to buy it that day. Samples sales generally last for two days at the most.

4. Trust your instincts but keep an open mind to suggestions that the bridal consultant may have for you. Gowns that don’t look very impressive on the hanger may come to life when you try them on!

5. Bring a trusted friend or your Mom with you for support and perspective. Bringing too many people often ends up feeling overwhelming and can create more confusion than clarity.

6. Sample sale dresses have probably been handled a lot more than a custom ordered version would be, so although they’re not used or second-hand gowns, they still may need to be cleaned professionally before your wedding. Ask your dress consultant for a reputable wedding gown cleaner.

Urban Unveiled Seattle Wedding Show

This year Junebug Weddings is excited to be sponsoring the 2009 Urban Unveiled wedding show at Beneroya Hall! It's a fun evening of drinks, snacks, fashion and give-aways, and meeting amazing wedding professionals face-to-face. We always have a great time at the event, and we hope that you will too! To give all our Seattle readers a sneak peek at what to expect this October 15th we interviewed the team behind the show- Sharlane Chase, Jesse Brix and Travis McBurney. Here's what they had to say...

Q: Urban Unveiled is called “The Seattle Wedding Event like no other”. Tell us about what makes this event so unique.

A: Urban Unveiled is the most decadent and over the top wedding event of the year. Each participating vendor is hand-selected by our Board, and we invite a limited number of vendors in each category, ensuring the highest quality of vendor services. We truly think of it as a party. It is a chance to get dressed up, have fun, and meet the best talent in the industry. This is not a traditional wedding show with high pressure sales. This is a cocktail party, an evening culminating in a fashion show by the legendary Luly Yang, her only dedicated bridal show of the year. Our amazing "Art of Giving" tops off the evening, featuring prizes from our fabulous vendors.

Q: Who are some of your participating partners?

A: We're honored to have over 40 participating vendors - many who have been our partners since the show's inception in 2007. We are also excited to be bringing in many new partners this year.

Q: Is there a design theme or atmosphere for this year’s event?

A: Every year the theme and design changes. This year's inspiration is South Beach Chic. We will transform Benaroya Hall to reflect this sleek and sexy style with tropical floral, art deco inspired linens, sheer draping, and dramatic lighting, all working together to set a festive party atmosphere.

Q: Since you’ve had a sneak peek at the menu, what tasty snacks and cocktails should attendees absolutely NOT miss?

A: Our menu this year is unsurpassed! We will be featuring wines from our fabulous new sponsors, Novelty Hill - Januik, as well as Layer Cake Wines. We are pleased to announce that Seattle's four premium caterers: Herban Feast, Lisa Dupar Catering, TASTE Events, and Tom Douglas Catering, will be offering food to be experienced. Guests can enjoy tray passed hors d'oeuvres and signature offerings at each caterer’s station.

Q: What is "The Art of Giving”?

A: The Art of Giving is a raffle featuring gifts provided by our vendors, some valued at thousands of dollars. Each guest receives a ticket upon entry. There is no additional purchase necessary, no need to bid. This is simply a gift from our vendors to the attending brides to be.

Q: What should couples keep in mind as they’re attending Urban Unveiled, meeting wedding professionals and thinking of their own wedding planning? What do you hope they’ll take advantage of while they’re there, and take away with them at the end of the night?

A: We hope couples keep in mind that each vendor is hand-selected. They are truly the best at what they do. Even though each category is limited, our board ensures that a broad spectrum of styles is represented. This allows each couple to find the perfect vendors for their own unique celebration. Urban Unveiled is here to inspire each and every couple. We want people to truly enjoy themselves and view this as a celebration of their own upcoming wedding.
