Brian and Allie of Callaway Gable Photography never cease to amazine me with their ability to create a vintage environment in their super stylized images, but at the same time capture the rich and authentic personalities of the couples they're photographing. It's truly remarkable! This old Hollywood "Singing in the Rain" inspired engagement shoot of couple Brittany and Jaylen (both actors writers and performers who love musicals) simply blows my mind!

From the bride, Brittany: We decided on the Singing in the Rain theme because Jaylen and I met while performing in the musical, "City Kid." Musicals are a big part of our life and relationship. We also chose the concept because we love the style of vintage Hollywood movies and the romance behind them. I also really wanted to wear my grandmother's dress and my great aunt’s mink sweater, which made the shoot that much more special as it would've meant so much to both of them, if they were still alive.
It was great shooting with Brian and Allison because they both have different strengths and bounce well off each other. Allison was really great with posing us, helping us find our best angles and picking wardrobe, while Brian was fantastic with his creative suggestions and lighting.
So far, people cannot stop talking about our engagement session - we've used the photos on Facebook, for our save the dates, and on our wedding website. I will probably also use some of them in our wedding slideshow and in our guestbook. These photos will last a lifetime. We are very excited about them!

From Callaway Gable Photography: Brittany and Jaylen’s engagement shoot was inspired by their shared love of the Gene Kelly and Debbie Reynold’s classic movie “Singing in the Rain”. Photographed on the streets of downtown Los Angeles, Allie and I paid attention to the scenery to ensure that each set-up matched the vibe of the film (old LA, urbanscapes, etc). Brittany and Jaylen are a creative powerhouse and the most energetic human beings you will ever meet, so there was no shortage of energy or a lack of willingness on their side. They completely trusted us which is so important to our process.
An interesting note - during the shoot we were granted special unprecedented access to the inside of the Los Angeles Theatre. How? As we were shooting in the alley, the side door opened and a wonderful English gentleman appeared from the depths. He seemed intrigued by what we were doing so after a bit, I asked him if we could go inside and photograph, thinking there was no way he would say yes. And what did he say: yes! He gave us a few minutes to shoot and that was it. I think we must have only been in there for 15 minutes. This is such a great example of being ready when opportunity knocks. Allie always makes fun of me for carrying so much gear. Who brings a softbox and extra strobes to the outdoor portion of the shoot? This guy! Always, because you never know. Thank goodness as the interior was very dark. If I didn’t bring that extra gear, this amazing opportunity would have disappeared. It is also a great illustration of just asking – it is crazy what people will let you do when you tell them that two people are getting married!
